ATV routes can be accessed from the Chevron station located across the street from Ruby’s Inn. South of the Chevron parking lot is the trailhead for the connecting trail. Follow it south as it parallels Highway 63, then crosses to the west side of Highway 63 and the Gateway Trailhead. The route starts immediately after crossing the highway.

Please use this guide to help plan your ATV experience. We have tried to make this as accurate as possible but remember that it is just a general guide. Riders abilities differ so some will be faster than others. Public restrooms are available at the Tropic Reservoir Trailhead and the Crawford Pass Trailhead. Cell phone use is limited in this area, but there are places where you can get reception.

The Paunsaugunt Plateau

The Paunsaugunt Plateau has some of the most scenic ATV routes available. The Forest Service has designated several loops where riders can enjoy the area and all its scenic beauty. Bryce Canyon is carved out of the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. ATVs, OHVs and UTVs are not permitted in Bryce Canyon National Park, but riders can enjoy similar scenery on the Paunsaugunt. Bryce Canyon-like scenery wraps around the plateau to the south and west, where most of the ATV routes are located.

Watch for deer, elk and pronghorn, as they are found abundantly on the Paunsaugunt. Bears and mountain lions live in the area but are rarely seen. Many other birds and animals, including beaver (Paunsaugunt means beaver in the Paiute Indian language) also make this their home.

Depending on the winter snow, routes are opened when they are accessible without damaging roads. The
Forest Service will post signs when a trail is considered unsafe to ride. Please respect the rules, stay on designated ATV routes, and have fun!
